Old Trafford hosts a double-header of one-run finishes

The Hundred double-header at Old Trafford saw Manchester Originals Women and Trent Rockets Men complete wins by just one run as both games went down to the wire. The margin of victories were the closest in the competition's short history.

In the women's game, the Originals made 137/6 from their 100 balls with Eve Jones (34) and Kathryn Bryce (32) the main contributors with the bat. Ash Gardner's economic spell of 1-17 was a big factor in restricting the Originals. Nat Sciver-Brunt made 56 off 46 balls but fell agonisingly short of the total after Gardner holed out at long-on.

In the men's game, the Rockets got to 145/7 with Tom Banton top-scoring with 45 from 22 balls. Sikandar Raza and Tom Hartley were the pick of the Originals bowlers with 2-29 and 3-25 respectively. The home side looked in control of the run chase but some excellent death bowling from Jordan Thompson, and some questionable batting, saw them throw away a good position to claim the points.

Today the competition moves to Leeds and the Northern Superchargers will take on Southern Brave in the eighth double-header of the season.

In Brief

Middlesex registered their first win of the one-day cup after completing a five-wicket win against Northamptonshire who remain winless after three matches. Worcestershire are currently at the top of Group A and Warwickshire are at the top of Group B.

Harry Brook is set to be available for Northern Superchargers tonight and will return as captain to a Superchargers side looking to pick up their first win.

Starting in January, Jonathan Trott will take over as Pretoria Capitals Head Coach in the SA20. Trott's current contract with Afghanistan expires in December of this year. He will take over from Graham Ford.
